Climate initiatives that make sense

Climate initiatives that make sense

All of HTH’s initiatives have been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), one of the most widely recognised labels for climate initiatives. It is important to us that our efforts are supported by science, so we ensure they have an effect.

HTH already achieving specific climate results

We regularly launch new climate initiatives, and they have already achieved results. For example, since 2016, we have reduced our carbon emissions from electricity, heating and transport by more than 50%.

Much of this can be attributed to our transition to renewable electricity. We now use 100% renewable electricity in our production and in our stores. In addition, 74% of our total heating in production and in stores derives from renewable sources.

We are working towards specific climate goals based on science

We have a goal of reducing carbon emissions from our operations by 72% by 2026, compared to 2016. This goal is in line with the aim of the Paris Agreement, and has been approved by SBTi. The goal covers our carbon emissions from electricity, our own and externally-sourced heating, and our transportation. To ensure that we meet our climate goals, we measure and monitor energy efficiency and carbon intensity each quarter in our management system.

We place high demands on our suppliers

The wood used in our kitchen units has a relatively small climate footprint, despite the large quantities involved. It is our appliances which have the largest climate footprint – both during production and operation in the kitchen. We have therefore set two strategic goals for appliances, aimed at reducing their climate impact in the value chain from our suppliers to our customers. These goals cover carbon emissions from the manufacture and use of appliances, and require that manufacturers set climate goals in line with the SBTi guidelines.
